2022-2023 UVU Choirs Audition Form
Welcome to UVU Choir auditions!  There is a choir for you at UVU, regardless of your ability or previous experience.  The audition process is to determine which choir is best suited for you this academic year.  After filling out this form, you will be given a link to sign-up for an in-person audition with choral faculty.

Your initial audition with choral faculty consists of brief vocal exercises to test vocal range & color, sight-singing, and one memorized song. For your memorized song, any genre (i.e. art song, opera aria, folksong, hymn verse, musical theater, original composition, etc.) is acceptable. The conductors will hear 16 measures.  If you would like one of the conductors to play the accompaniment, please bring sheet music.  If you don't have a selection in mind, feel free to use one of these free, public domain selections (in any key):

          http://openhymnal.org/Pdf/Amazing_Grace-New_Britain.pdf
          https://songsandhymns.org/pdf/sheet_music/america-the-beautiful.pdf

Demonstrate your best sound and musicality. The audition takes a total of 10 minutes. Please arrive 10 minutes early.

FOR FALL SEMESTER: Those who advance past the initial in-person audition will receive an email of invitation to the callback for UVU Emerald Singers (soprano-alto choir), UVU Deep Green (tenor-bass choir), and/or UVU Chamber Choir (mixed SATB choir). Those callbacks happen Tuesday or Wednesday (during normal class times) in the first week of the semester.  The three auditioned choirs rehearse at the following times:  Emerald Singers MWF 1-1:50, Deep Green MWF 1-1:50 pm, Chamber Choir TWThF 12-12:50 pm.  Please attempt to leave these times available in your schedule so you can participate in the choir (or choirs) you are selected to join.

For those not invited to a callback, we sincerely hope you will join the Concert Choir (MW 2-2:50 pm).  Participation in the Concert Choir does not require an audition; simply show up for the first class.  For students majoring in music, please note that Concert Choir does not fulfill music major "large ensemble" requirements.

Please remember that you will need to fill out this form AND sign up for an audition time!  On the confirmation page of this form you will be directed to follow this link to sign-up for a time:

We so look forward to welcoming you on campus and hearing you sing!

Dr. Brown (Conductor of UVU Concert Choir)
Dr. Criddle (Director of Choral Activities; conductor of UVU Chamber Choir & UVU Deep Green)
Dr. Worthen (Coordinator of Choral Music Education; conductor of UVU Emerald Singers)

CHAMBER CHOIR TOUR: The UVU Chamber Choir has received an invitation to perform at a highly prestigious professional conference in Cincinnati, Ohio during the week of February 20-25, 2023. If selected for the Chamber Choir, I understand that I am committing to participating in this tour and its affiliated cost. The estimated financial responsibility for each participating singer will be between $800-$1100, due by November 1, 2022. We will do everything we can to keep costs low, notwithstanding this era of high transportation/gas costs and inflation. *
SENIORS: Each year one graduating senior is featured in a "Senior Spotlight" solo during a Choral Showcase concert.  Selection will be based on the student's individual choral audition, as well as their track record of excellence as a choral singer at UVU.  Are you in your final year at UVU and would like to be considered?
Clear selection
CHOIR ATTIRE: New singers placed in ensembles are required to purchase the appropriate uniform. These are ordered quickly--often before the close of the add/drop period. If you are fitted for wardrobe, you are financially obligated for your order and/or any cancellation fees if you choose to drop. You can either choose a UVU choral tuxedo (~$247) or a UVU choral dress (~$90). Wardrobe will be the same as last year. *
RETREATS: All three ensembles typically hold an evening or Saturday retreat each fall. Attendance is required. Check the box below to indicate your understanding of this obligation. *

ONE-YEAR COMMITMENT: Students are asked to participate in the choir for entire academic year. Please check that you understand the obligation. *
