The Alternative Energy Development Incentive is a post-performance tax credit for 75% of new state revenue for 20 years, or the economic life of the project (whichever is less). Projects must be either new or expanded operations that generate electricity at a utility-scale (≥2 MW) or that extract alternative fuels at a large scale (≥ 1,000 bpd).

Application Submission and Review Process:

1. The completed application, together with all required attachments, may be submitted electronically at any time.
2. Entities must be prepared to demonstrate that they have obtained the following documents before attaining final approval:
1. Certificate of Good Standing for the Utah Division of corporations and Commercial Code
2. Evidence of site control
3. Entities must also demonstrate that they have obtained one or more of the following:
1. Permits from a local, state, or federal agency, not to include conditional use permits,
2. A position in the generation interconnection queue that has advanced beyond the Feasibility Study, or
3. Proof of financing sufficient to initiate project development activities.
4. Prior to submitting the application, the entity must schedule at least one meeting with the Office of Energy Development to review project details and be briefed on the application process.
5. Once the Office has determined that the application is complete, the Office will require up to four weeks to review the application and to determine the eligibility of each completed application.
