Help us identify the next subject for the Inclusive Portrait Project

The Libraries invites the campus to submit recommendations for who you think should be the next woman honored for the third portrait in the Fund for Women of WVU funded Inclusive Portrait Project,

What woman has been influential, inspiring, important to the WVU experience and the history of the University? A professor, a mentor, leader, change agent? We want to hear from you to work to diversify our collection and highlight the rich history of women’s leadership at WVU.

The WVU Libraries’ Inclusive Portrait Project initiative’s goal is the creation of three portraits, one portrait each year for three years, of a woman important to WVU’s history. Each portrait is painted by a current BFA or MFA student or recent graduate of the WVU program who identifies as female.

Recently, the second portrait was unveiled in WVU Libraries’ Inclusive Portrait Project, depicting Kittie Blakemore by artist Julia Zaph (WVU BFA ‘22). Last year, artist Anna Allen (WVU BFA ‘21) completed the first portrait of Victorine Louistall Monroe. Both are on display in the Robinson Reading Rooms of the WVU Downtown Library and are now part of the West Virginia & Regional History Center Collection.

For the third portrait in the Fund for Women of WVU funded project, the Libraries is inviting the campus to submit recommendations for who you think should be the next woman honored.  To nominate someone, fill out the below by July 20, 2023. Any questions? Email Exhibits Coordinator Sally Brown, sally.brown1@mail.wvu.edu.

If you would like to submit more than one recommendation you will see an option to do so once you submit your first.
