The Kentucky Department of Education has provided a waiver to districts that would allow a continuation of virtual learning that has very different requirements than our current model (RCOLA). Rowan County Schools will be offering a new virtual program that requires all students to participate online. Each application will be reviewed by school and district teams for approval. Paper packets will not be offered to any student for the 2021-2022 school year. All On-Line Registration (OLR) will need to be completed as you normally would and, if accepted, we would change status in Infinite Campus.

All applications must be submitted by June 15, 2021 and will be reviewed by an Administrative Committee at the school within 15 days of submission of application.

Student/parent/guardian assurances and important facts. Please read each item listed below and check each box to acknowledge your acceptance of the requirements. *

Student has appropriate digital access and support that includes the following: laptop, desktop or chromebook (smart phones are not acceptable).

Check here if an appropriate device is needed and Chromebook will be issued to student.

Student/parent/guardian understands that student must be present virtually for each class in their daily schedule.

Cameras on device must be turned on to confirm attendance and participation in class instruction.

Students are required to participate in real-time (via live sessions) for two-way student to teacher visual and verbal interactions. Zoom and/or Google Meet will be utilized daily.

Parent/guardian of K-5 students understands and agrees that appropriate adult support will be available for the entire school day to assist students when needed.

Student/parent/guardian understands that truancy regulations will be the same as participating in-person.

Parent/guardian understands that "acceptance" into Viking Virtual Academy is contingent upon their completion of digital training prior to the start of virtual learning.

Parent/guardian understands that meals will not be provided to students.

Student/parent/guardian understands that at any point that guidelines, including truancy, are not followed, the student will be returned to in-person instruction immediately.

Student/parent/guardian understand that they are committing to at least one semester in the Viking Virtual Academy. The Administrative Committee may consider or reconsider any application due to extenuating circumstances.

Parent/guardian understands that a student identified under IDEA (special education) and/or Section 504 requires a separate meeting to determine acceptance into the Viking Virtual Academy.

Student may participate in field trips and after school activities including athletics.

Access to the school nurse will be available by appointment.

Student must come to the school building for required state and local testing.

Students must maintain passing grades in all courses.
