Rotherham Labour Councillors are calling on the UKIP group of Councillors not to return Cllr Brian Cutts to the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Panel - just months after he was found to have made homophobic comments.

Back in October Labour Councillors successfully removed him from his position on the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Panel after a Standards investigation found that his comments, asking "Why are we allowing lesbians and gay men to foster children?" before going on to say he "knew right from wrong" and "knew which side of the road to drive on and which way to go - straight", amounted to homophobia.

He later apologised for any offence but said he believed "the care of children is best when they are looked after by a man and a woman".

Cllr Cutts has previously challenged the council's flying of the rainbow flag.

We believe he is unfit for the position and must not represent our town on this panel - but UKIP have said that they will just keep nominating him anyway. So now we need your help to send a clear message to UKIP Councillors.

Please sign our petition and tell the leader of UKIP in Rotherham that our borough deserves better, you're backing our stance and they must nominate someone who can represent everyone in our borough without prejudice.
