juvenilejusticementoring@suls.org.au JJMS mentors are responsible for designing, executing, and facilitating recreational programs with residents in juvenile detention centres. The programs run at Cobham Juvenile Justice Centre in Werrington (which is male-only).
Sessions run for approximately 1 hour. Mentors are required to attend on a weekly or fortnightly basis, ending week 13 of semester 2. The respective program sessions will run on Saturdays.
Due to the postponement of the semester 1 program following the escalation of Covid-19, the semester 2 program for 2020 will begin August 1.
Covid-19 has had a profound societal impact, requiring everyone to adapt to the changes that have ensued. Any mentor who is feeling sick with cold and flu symptoms must NOT attend the program until well again. Safety measures have been implemented by the centre for the safety of everyone and must be followed accordingly. These include being temperature tested upon arrival, the use of hand sanitiser and hand washing before and after the sessions, physical distancing of 1.5 metres between each person and other measures as instructed.
All applicants must be available to attend a compulsory zoom mentor induction and workshop on Wednesday 22 July 2020, 6:30 pm-8:00 pm. This will be a chance to get to know your Co-Chairs, learn more about the program, and prepare for the upcoming semester. This induction is for all new and returning mentors. We look forward to hearing from you!
