This year to celebrate Te Matatahi o Te Tau the Matamata Piako Libraries, together with the Wallace Art Gallery have created a kaupapa. Starting with "In-library" wānanga this kaupapa will move into fun and creative activity with the art gallery.
In library wānanga will start on the second week of June (7th to the 11th of June). Wānanga will be entirely focused on discussion with a shared learning environment for all. If you know nothing, little bits or a lot about Matariki this is the right place for you. In these wānanga, nobody is the expert, but everyone will be focused on learning from the resources provided and discussing how we interpret them. An eager desire to learn off others and assisting to provide a safe space to share with each other is required. Our wānanga will result in a community lead Matariki Ceremony in a publicly accessible space to practice and solidify our newfound understandings.
Following the Matariki Ceremony, we will have one more in library wānanga to reflect on our experience, before heading into the Phase Two (Optional).
Phase Two presents an opportunity to use the Art Gallery's workspace to create art of any kind that reflects on our personal experiences throughout this Kaupapa. This phase is focused heavily on fun and reflection through visual expression. All artwork created will be displayed in a rotating exhibition between the Morrinsville Library and the Wallace Art Gallery to celebrating local creative expression. Please note, this phase is optional and should anyone not involved in the initial wānanga wish to be apart of this phase you will be more than welcome [if space is available].
If you're interested please fill out the form below. Any questions will be answered prior to the cut off on the Wednesday the 26th of May 12pm. Placements will be confirmed by Friday the 28th of May.
Understanding that there may be parents interested in attending, provisions will be made to accommodate children as appropriate.
