Oil & gas industry in Brunei Darussalam has reach 90 years old since its first production in 1929. Throughout the 90 years operation, there are significant numbers of aging facilities both onshore and offshore and some of these assets are no longer in operation. These assets need to be managed to minimize safety and environment concerns, hence the Decommissioning and Restoration (D&R) is being implemented in Brunei to achieve the intent.

In 2017, Brunei Darussalam through the Ministry of Energy had introduced the National E&P Guideline for Decommissioning and Restoration of Upstream industry, with the objective to ensure consistent approach for all operators in managing their late life operation subsequently D&R activities are observing all relevant legislations in force. Currently, more than 200 offshore structures, over 1,000 wells, over 1,500 km length of pipelines as well as onshore facilities from upstream industries to be decommissioned in the next 20-30 years. Ministry of Energy through Petroleum Authority of Brunei Darussalam will also implement D&R legislations for petroleum industries in the near future.

The objective of this Forum is to bring participants onboard on the D&R activities including the potential spin-off industries that can be generated from it. This Forum is open for all Government Agencies including Statutory Bodies, oil & gas operators, service providers and higher institutions.
