The West African Research Association and the Center for African Studies at the University of California, Berkeley are collaborating on the 2nd West African Research Association West Coast Regional Conference to create and deepen connections among those whose research and teaching is focused on West Africa and who are located in the western region of North America.

We invite paper proposals addressing West Africa-focused research from faculty and graduate students in all disciplines from those based in western North America. We also encourage papers and panels that consider curriculum on West Africa. This will be the second edition of this West Coast Regional Conference with the first being in 2021.

The conference will take place on Monday, 10 June and Tuesday, 11 June 2024. Presenters will be organized into thematic panels of 3-4 presentations. All sessions will take place on Zoom. The conference will take place during business hours Pacific Daylight Time.

Please submit a paper or panel abstract of up to 200 words through this form. The deadline is Friday, 12 April 2024 by 11:59 PM (PT). Conference registration is free. A registration link and schedule will be made available on the conference website by 1 June 2024. The website will be linked on the Center's Conferences & Symposia page. Participants will be able to register to present or attend when the registration link becomes available.
