Departamentul de ecologie al ONG Crispus Sibiu colecteaza date despre atacul sacalului auriu la ovine. Se cunoaste acum foarte bine ca aceste atacuri pot exista, insa nu exista inca date oficiale care sa demonstreze acest tip de hrana in dieta sacalului auriu. In general, atacurile la ovine se produc pe timpul noptii in zone semiurbane sau cu actiune antropica intensa, unde exista pasunat liber, iar oile sunt lasate fara paza pe timpul noptii.
