Hello! The Kaya Toast Mini-Mentorship Initiative was something I started in June 2021, for people in Singapore who have interesting perspectives and stories to tell to pitch their ideas and get help crafting their pieces. After the first round, I decided to keep this open on a rolling basis, so that people can submit applications any time. I will select pieces based on the strength of the application, but also other factors like the amount of bandwidth I have for mentorship at any given point in time, as well as the budget that I have to pay for work if it gets published as a guest issue of We, The Citizens. This is similar to the pitching process at many other publications, where commissions and rejections are dependent on a range of factors that might not necessarily have to do with you or your pitch. Feel free to try again some other time if yours didn't get picked!
