Food Rescue pickup for the U District food bank Sign-up
We are excited to offer another opportunity for cyclists to use their bikes to promote community food security in another link of chain of food bank logistics! The U District food bank needs 5 riders with cargo bikes or bike trailers to help them pick-up donated food from two grocery stores within or near the U District.

How many banana box are you able to transport on your bike or with a bike trailer?
Don't worry, we won't be picking up banana's 100 percent of the time! Many grocery stores and food banks use banana boxes to store and deliver many different food items, from canned tuna, rice, and condensed milk to rice krispies for the kids! A banana box measures 10 inches high by 16 inches wide by 20 inches long and from Trader Joe's will weigh 30 to 40 pounds. Generally when volunteers have been using our trailers they have been able to carry 2 boxes.

Do you need to borrow a bike trailer from us?
These bike trailers are easy to install on your bike and well will bring them to the food bank that you will be delivering groceries for. After you are finished with your delivery and no longer need the trailer you can ether bike it back to the food bank or we can work with you to find a good pickup time and place for returning the trailer to us. Currently our trailers require that you have a bike with a quick-release rear wheel.
