DRP Fall 2019 Mentor Application Form
This is an application to be a mentor in the Direct Reading Program (DRP) at UT Austin during the Fall 2019 semester. Make sure you read the following details before applying:

DRP is designed to pair undergraduate math students with graduate student mentors in order to undertake independent study projects in a mathematical topic of their choosing. Undergraduate students may apply for DRP and, if accepted, will be assigned an appropriate mentor. We do our best to pair students and mentors who have similar mathematical interests.

Projects could be based on reading through a book or an article, but are not limited to such things. The goal is to cover material that is not typically covered in a standard undergraduate math course. Mentors and students will choose their projects together  based on the student's interests.  More details about choosing a project will be provided after the program has started.

Requirements: The DRP student is required to have an hour-long weekly meeting with his or her mentor to discuss progress towards the goal of the project. Approximately four hours of independent work by the student is expected between meetings. At the end of the semester, the group of DRP participants will meet, and each DRP student will give a 10-25 minute presentation on some part of their work. By applying to be a mentor you commit to attending our kick-off event on Thursday, September 12th at 6:00 pm and the full evening of student talks on Thursday, November 21st from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.

NOTE: due to funding issues this semester, we may not be able to pay all non-math department mentors. Non-math department mentors will be asked for their advisor's name to try to secure funding on their behalf.
