This unique and creative project aims to encourage community collaboration and promote local artists as part of Botanical Bazaar 2023. More than 40 butterfly designs created a spectacular display in 2022. This years shape is a Caterpillar.

1. Artists register interest by completing application form below.
2. A selection of artists (approx 30) will be invited to pay a registration fee to receive a caterpillar shaped blank to paint / decorate. Blank will be approx. 800mmx600mm in plywood. A smaller version will be available for junior artists and schools that would like to participate.
3. All completed entries returned for clear protective coating, labelling and mounting on posts.
4. During the period before Botanical Bazaar on 5th August 2023, the butterfly collection will be displayed in various park locations around Gold Coast, providing exposure for artists, sponsors and the Botanical Bazaar.
5. All entries will be installed as botanical displays at the Botanical Bazaar on 5th and 6th August 2023, providing the public with the opportunity to vote for best entry.
6. As a condition of entry, artists transfer ownership of their creation and exclusive copyright to the Rotary Club of Gold Coast.
a. During the display period, an on-line auction will be conducted for all entries
b. Funds raised last year assisted the Friends of Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens to purchase an electric buggy (8-seater people mover) to provide an inclusive mobility service for the less fit, the elderly and those with limited mobility around the Botanic Gardens. Funds raised this year will support the ongoing operation of the Glider and other interpretive signage in the Botanic Gardens.
7. People’s Choice prizes for Open and Student categories will be awarded.

Timelines:

February 2023 - Expression of Interest open
March 2023 - Artists invited to participate and pay entry fee and collect butterfly blank
1 May 2023 - Deadline for receipt of completed entries
May - July - Displays of entries in parks, gardens and other events (on-line auction commences)
5 & 6 August - All entries on display at Botanical Bazaar (public voting)
6 August - Announcement of People's Choice Awards and Auction results

Rules and Conditions of Entry:

- One entry per person

- The entrant represents and warrants that the work is the entrant’s sole original work, the entrant has the power to grant the rights given under it, the entrant has obtained appropriate releases, including location and performer’s releases, the entrant is entitled to reproduce and exploit any underlying rights in the work, and the entrant indemnifies the organiser against any loss resulting from breach of these warranties.

- All entries become the property of the organiser

- The entrant consents to the organiser using their name, biographical details and likeness in connection with the competition.

There are 2 People's Choice prizes to be won:

1.Open Category – Prize to minimum value of $750

2. Student (under 15 years) Category - Prize to minimum value of $250

All entries receive 2 free entry tickets to Botanical Bazaar (collected at time of submission delivery).
