Since the summer of 2022, JMSA started the JMSA Mentorship Program as an initiative of the JMSA Student Ambassadors. The goal of the mentorship program is to connect Japanese and Japanese-American premedical students, medical students and residents with physicians and health care professionals of Japanese and Japanese-American background. The program seeks to support students and residents in the US or Japan who want to further their career in medicine within the United States. They would benefit tremendously if you could share your experiences and guidance. Some common topics of interest have included, how to strengthen residency applications and build research and clinical experiences.
We would greatly appreciate if you would consider becoming a mentor. The time commitment is flexible. To start, we will ask the mentors to be available for a one-on-one meeting with the student either via initial phone conversation, zoom session or in person. After that initial meeting is over, it is up to the mentor and mentee to decide whether to keep in touch or not. We will reach out periodically and will be available to facilitate the meetings. We welcome your comments and suggestions as we expand our new program.
