A work-based learning program can benefit participating students by:
1. Providing opportunities to apply academic proficiencies.
2. Establishing a clear connection between education and work.
3. Increasing motivation and retention by showing the relevance of academic and occupational instruction.
4. Providing opportunities to explore possible careers and enhancing skill development.
5. Improving post-graduation job prospects and establishing future employment contacts.
6. Developing workplace responsibility and positive work habits and attitudes.
7. Providing opportunities for leadership development.
8. Providing opportunities to develop relationships with adults outside of education.
9. Encouraging completion of secondary education and enrollment in post-secondary education.
10. Helping develop an understanding of the workplace.
In order to participate in the program, a student must meet the following requirements:
- Be a Junior or Senior at least 16 years old
- Be on track for graduation
- Have a good academic record (GPA 2.5 or higher)
- Have a good attendance and punctuality record
- Have a good high school discipline record
- Have a clearly defined career goal
- Have completed or be completing the final course of a Career Pathway
* HAVE RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION TO and FROM WORK
- Have a job that relates to that Career Pathway/be willing to help the WBL coordinator find an internship position related to that Career Pathway
- Provide four (4) outstanding teacher recommendations (1 CTAE Pathway, 1 English, 1 Math, 1 of student's choice)
- Complete and submit Work-Based Learning Application (below)
ONCE YOUR APPLICATION HAS BEEN SUBMITTED and reviewed, if you meet the requirements, you will interview with the Work-Based Learning Coordinator. Be sure your contact information shared is accurate.
