Shared Experiences: A Conversation Series - Indigenous History

Join the Graduate Peer Support Committee for another instalment of our Shared Experiences Conversation Series.

GPS will be humbled and humoured by Indigenous Alumni and now Western staff Higuanameta Laura Ramírez. Being Taino Métis, Ramirez will guide you through the tumultuous life of an Indigenous individual in the 'Academy' (if you can even call it that!). Ramirez will also be joined by Hannah Bazinet, a descendant of the historic Métis community of Penetanguishene and currently resides in Toronto, ON.

Hannah is the current Post-Secondary Representative on the Provisional Council of the Métis Nation of Ontario, which is the governing body for Métis Nation citizens in Ontario. Her main goal in this role is to create safe spaces for Métis citizens to communicate their opinions and concerns surrounding post-secondary education and institutions, and hopes to act as an informed representative for Métis post-secondary students; working from the grassroots, upwards. While participating in community gatherings and events across the homeland, she completed her BSc in Medical Biophysics at Western University and now attends University of Toronto/Michener Institute for Radiation Therapy.

Enjoy a talk fraught with hardships, happiness, and a quick guide to institutional Justice!
