It was Rome and I for as long as I can remember.
We
were neighbors, two kids growing together in a poor part of town,
playing adult games we didn’t fully understand. He was beauty and
disaster covered in ink. He fought for me and for his family when we
couldn’t fight for ourselves.
I promise.
When Rome said those two words, I took them to heart. It was an oath, a vow, an assurance. Then he broke them.
But we were kids who didn’t know much about loyalty, love, or security back then.
When
my mother dies unexpectedly and I’m compelled to go back to the old
neighborhood to raise my little sister, the ghosts of my past are there,
waiting in the shadows. And Rome and I are forced to face our choices,
and each other once again.
My name is Eden. Rome was my best
friend. He was everything to me… until he wasn’t. But maybe the promises
he made weren’t broken like I thought. Maybe he was there for me all
along, even when I thought he wasn’t.
