Pretty Snow, Merry Christmas
2019 Junior National Guys 200 Fly
2019 Junior National Gals 200 Back
When you watch these two events, what similarities do you see when it comes to both their walls and the way they swim their races?
Both of these videos are of high school kids (from as young as Freshmen) doing these skills and going this fast.  If they aren't all bigger than you and they haven't all been swimming longer, what is it that you think they are doing (or have been doing) that you aren't?
Learning how to properly create speed and carry it off the walls is  a CRITICAL SKILL in swimming, not an afterthought.  Ed Moses took great care in developing his underwater speed and distance, so lets circle back to pushing off the wall in order to create "take off" speed that will help us have faster flow (wind) available to us.
Should you push off the wall on your side or on your stomach?
Should you push off and THEN find your streamline, or should you streamline BEFORE you push off the wall?  Why?
What does core strength and balance have to do with creating and carrying speed off the walls?
Why should you point your toes ("Plantar Flexion") immediately as you push off the wall?
The last video talked about setting yourself up for the strongest push-off off the wall.  Friend Milt here is going to briefly help you understand how your hip placement can help you do that.
What does he mean "deliver your force through the bones down into the floor"?
What does he say you need to experiment with and how will you know when you've found it?
Home Exercise for Turn Jumps
Why would this be a good exercise to add to your program if you want to have better turns?
"Plunges" for a Balanced Pushoff
What are the 3 essential components of a proper balanced pushoff?
What does a strong core have to do with your ability not only to execute a proper flipturn or open turn, but also your ability to hold your line off the wall?
Why is it important to be able to push off in a streamlined, tight, and level position and hold it until your entire body comes to the surface?
Why is it important to drop down below the surface and set your streamline before pushing off?
Why is staying tight and long important?  How can "imploding" help?
Why "Hold, Hold, hold"?
Why do you want your body to rise to the surface all at the same time on this drill?
The very last few seconds is where the most learning will take place, so don't just stop and pull out.  Why?
How does this drill use the "2mm rule"?
