Western Hills Garden Program Instructor Outreach
Western Hills Garden is a three acre biodiverse oasis in Occidental, CA owned by Hadley Dynak and Kent Strader.

We offer program and workshop offerings in three core areas, and we're looking to build relationships with people interested in teaching a class or a workshop.

Our vision is to link place, plants, and people with possibility and purpose. We intend to inspire hope in the future, catalyze creativity, and provide opportunities for ideas to take root.

We aim to:
• steward the property as a legacy garden with an eye toward long-term sustainability
• offer programming for the public to enjoy and engage in this landmark space
• partner with nonprofits, schools, artists, creatives, and community groups to help them further their goals

We also plan to produce some site specific, temporary art installations and to offer a small onsite residency program.

We hope to offer classes in the following content areas:
• horticulture and gardening (e.g., botany, composting, basket making, etc.).
• creative expression (e.g., watercolor, botanical drawing, photography, wreath making, flower arranging, etc.).
• wellness (e.g., guided meditation, journaling, other inner work, etc.)

Please join us in imagining what this might look like and in helping us pull it off!

*We split class revenue with instructors (or do 60-instructor/40-us). In some cases we can also offer to host instructors + a guest overnight the night before the class in our guest house.

Check out our website for more background on the garden. It's quite incredible. (www.westernhillsgarden.com).

Tell us more about what you have in mind. (Brief class content overview.)
Have you taught this class before? When/where?

What type of setting do you need? The garden has many seating areas and picnic tables throughout, along with a large Commons area with umbrellas and tables and a small barn with a kitchen and workspace. Right now we do not have indoor classroom space.
We expect most classes and workshops to cost between $50-$100 + materials. We will also hold two "pay what you can" spots per session. What would be the right amount to charge for your class?
We expect most classes to be around 12 people at capacity. Is 12 a good number for your class? If not how many can you accommodate?

Classes/workshops are typically held on Saturdays and Sundays. We can accommodate 1-2 a month. If you'd like to do something in 2024 please list 3-4 dates below that you are available.
Would you be interested in leading a multiple session/day workshop? While we can't host overnight guests (except for instructors) onsite we can work with local hotels/vacation rentals to house folks.

Do you want to be on our newsletter list? (Relatively infrequent email updates on what we're up to and opportunities to get involved.) *
Please send names/emails of others you think we should reach out to. Or feel free to forward this form on to folks.
Any other thoughts, advice, suggestions to share with us as we curate this programming? Lessons you have learned from other teaching experiences that would help?
