WAT Team Application 2021
Eston College’s World Action Teams (WAT) program
is an opportunity for students to engage in a short
period of concentrated service, learning, and national
or international education. They are now open to both
students, alumni, and other young adults who are
interested in joining.

The educational philosophy behind this program is
rooted in active and experiential modes of learning.
While classroom learning will prepare you for the
analytical portion of the process, experiencing a
WAT trip helps align certain theoretical issues with
practical living. “Be doers of the word, and not
hearers only.” (James 1:22).

Teams will be mostly finalized in mid to late January
but sign up now to ensure your spot and give team
leaders time to prepare with a better understanding
of how many are going on these trips.

Two of the trips for this year
We will be going to

BC (Surrey & Vancouver) - This team will be led by Shenay Weyers. You will get a chance to partner with local missions and outreach groups who serve in many different types of cross-cultural ministry in the tri-city area. We will be working with a local church in Surrey, receiving leadership training, and being equipped to serve in Canada's most culturally diverse region. We will also serve at the ACOP National Summit in Calgary, AB for 3 days. This cross-country road trip will include some hiking, surfing, and local tourism too! This will be a 2.5-3 week trip and total cost will likely be around $1000.

United Kingdom (Birmingham and Northern Ireland) - This team will be led by David, Jetaime, and Anna Hepting. You will get a chance to experience the history and the beauty of the UK as well as many different types of cross-cultural ministry. We will be working with a local Chinese church in Birmingham and helping out with worship, lifegroups, and encouraging the body. We will also connect with those ministering to Middle Eastern populations and do some street and healing ministry as well. This will be a three week trip and total cost will likely be around $2500 CAD.

Team Prep and Finances
WAT teams will meet roughly once a month for planning, potential language learning, and fundraising ideas and implementation. These meetings are required to attend.  For alumni or team members who are not a part of the direct college community we will try to figure out a time to meet where we can add you on zoom and you can participate from afar.

Finances - Once teams are determined each student will be required to fulfill the financial amounts for each designated time. The following times and percentages are required for each person on the team to meet.

1st week of January Classes - $150 deposit with your application filled out. This deposit will be part of the total goal amount. If the student is not selected to be part of the team the deposit will be returned to the student. If the student who is part of the team drops out or fails to meet financial goals and is unable to go the deposit goes towards the team funds.

End of January - 25% of goal met

2nd week of February 40% of goal met

4th week of February 60% of goal met

2nd week of March 80% of goal met (tickets will be purchased for flights)
