2022 Dr. Lucia Karnes Memorial Scholarship
The Dr. Lucia R. Karnes Scholarship is offered to provide professional development funds to current NCIDA members who are:
1. A member of NCIDA and a resident of North Carolina
2. Teachers or other education professionals
2. Seeking to attend multi-sensory structured literacy courses from an accredited training program that will allow them to obtain skills for teaching students with the language-based learning disability known as dyslexia
3. Seeking to understand and address the needs of individuals with the language-based learning disability known as dyslexia by attendance at dyslexia-focused conferences or workshops approved by the Scholarship Committee.
Application Cycle: The application cycle will occur from February 1, 2022 - February 25, 2022.
Finalists will be notified the week of March 7, 2022.
Use of Funds: The scholarship funds must be used to attend an accredited teacher training and course based on evidence to be effective for students with dyslexia and conferences related to the language-based learning disability known as dyslexia. Funds may also be used for a practicum if applicant is currently enrolled or under the supervision of a clinical supervisor. This may include registration and/or travel expenses. Funds are not to be used to cover registration costs for NCIDA events covered by the Elizabeth Daniels Squire Scholarship Fund.
Important Note: Funds will be paid from NCIDA to the training provider or to the individual after completion and documentation of the training or practicum.
