Friendship between Enemies - Call for application to a participative film project
The Centre international de formation européenne (CIFE Nice/Berlin), du Coin de l'Oeil (Paris, France) and KINOkašča / CINEMattic (Nova Gorica, Slovenia), supported by the Franco-German Youth Office are pleased to announce our upcoming workshops:

Friendship between Enemies - One Film, Three Perspectives

A great opportunity to make a film, step by step, with Youth from France, Germany and Slovenia. This interactive programme consists of 3 workshops which will take place in Germany, France and Slovenia.

This call is open to students from all backgrounds (not only filmmaking)!

The first workshop is scheduled for the following dates: 14  - 20 July 2024 in Berlin.

The second will take place in Issoudun, France from 25 August to 1 September 2024, and the third and final one in Nova Gorica, Slovenia (dates to be determined, in 2025).

The workshop will bring together 18 young people from these countries (6 from each) to make 3 short films together in transnational teams. The team will write the script and the dialogues (phase 1 in Berlin), film, select archives and record sounds (phase 2 in Issoudun) and edit (phase 3 in Nova Gorica), accompanied by us.

The objective of our programme is to make three short films with the selected participants on the topic “Friendship between Enemies”. Together, we will imagine and write a story and develop it through three different perspectives (for example through three different characters…).

This year, we propose to work with film archives that we will select, recording sounds and shooting sequences in order to make our film. We will also rely on recorded testimonials of WWII survivors. And we will add a dose of imagination in order to make these short films.

The aim is to rediscover and imagine together a story linked to political violence and war that have shaken our world in the past, with participants from different countries and three different origins. How can we tell a fractured past in a manner that fosters unity? Amidst the horrors of war, are there instances of solidarity between people from the opposing sides to be found? We aim to explore family  memories and local histories to find examples of this unique form of bravery often overlooked by purveyors of hatred.

The result will be shown during a public screening followed by a discussion.

Language:    Workshops will be held in English.

Costs:    The participation fee is 150€. This fee will cover all travel, accommodation in a double room or quadruple single-sex room, and workshop costs during all three weeks of the programme. Programme participants are required to attend all 3 workshops.

Deadline for application: 1 April 2024

Thank you for your application!

Julie Biro (Du Coin de l'Oeil), Anja Medved (KINOkašča / CINEMattic), Aline Palige (CIFE)
