Community Tree Triangle - NWCA Neighborhood Input

NWCA Board has approved a proposal from Kellie Cox of Strawberry Fields, LLC to provide a master plan landscape design for the county right-of-way space at the intersection of Luzerne Ave. and Glen Ross Rd. where the community tree sits.  Please use the form below to provide your input to the Community Design Committee and landscape designer for the project.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The landscape design for the ~2000sf area will:

  • Maintain and possibly enhance the use of the area for the annual neighborhood holiday tree and menorah lighting events.
  • Replace the grass with plantings of native species sourced from environmentally conscious growers and suppliers to attract pollinators and provide food and cover for birds.
  • Consider the educational opportunity these types of plantings could offer the community.
  • Keep the community tree and the winterberry bushes already planted there (note: bushes may be moved).
  • Consider features like stone pathways to invite the community to engage in the space.
  • Consider sight lines for traffic safety throughout the year.
  • Require only minimal long-term maintenance.
The NWCA Community Design Committee has been in contact with Montgomery County to obtain approval, and the County has provided us with a list of guidelines to follow.  For example: maximum height 18”-24” for any new plantings except for up to three new small trees that the County will provide. We are also exploring various ways to fund the project including grants, donations, etc.
