Non Essential Construction Putting Brooklynites In Danger

Owner/Developer of Two Market Rate Buildings in Kensington Keeping 20-40 Workers at Each Site despite COVID 19 Crisis

The two locations are on the same block and have two different large construction crews each day and sometimes on the weekend. 210 Parkville Avenue  and 639 Foster Avenue.

The recently released NYC Essential Construction Map includes two troubled market rate apartment buildings that have been the subject of numerous complaints in Community Board 14, Brooklyn.

It is incomprehensible that construction at these two locations is still continuing putting the workers and local residents and everyone else in New York in danger. They gather, they hang out and smoke on breaks next to each other and they are working on top of each other in  tight quarters.

None of it seems like emergency work or essential to me, some of them are just painting rooms, you can see it from the street. They just want to get this job finished and the potential health costs of their workers and the neighborhood is of no concern to them. It is shameful that the Department of Buildings and local authorities are allowing this.

According to public records both locations have the same owner developer Solomon Feder and the same Applicant of Record and the same Expediter.  The owner is associated with Velocity development corporation.

The Foster Avenue location has a partial Stop Work Order and still work is happening.  In 2020 there have been ten reported complaints and yet work has continued.

They include: “THERE HAVE BEEN A GROUP OF WORKERS STILL WORKING ON A BUILDING WHICH A NEW CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW RESIDENTIAL BUILDING. EVERY DAY SINCE MARCH 27 THEY HAVE BEEN WORKING AND THEY ARE LOCATED N TRUNCATED”  And April 1 “CONSTRUCTION WORK OF A NEW BUILDING. IT IS NOT AFFORDABLE HOUSING. THEY ARE POURING CONCRETE. ABOUT 25 WORKERS ARE THERE.”

Local residents demand that the City remove the “Essential Construction” designation for 210 Parkville Avenue and 639 Foster Avenue immediately and shut down these dangerous groupings of vulnerable workers.
