Sandwell Borough of Sanctuary is a network of groups and individuals with the collective aim of Sandwell becoming a registered and recognised 'borough of sanctuary', as part of the City of Sanctuary movement, by October 1st 2020. Towards that end, a working group has been formed that is developing a strategy, which will be agreed by the main supporting organisations. The strategy will state how the borough of sanctuary will be created and how those who join the network will work towards greater inclusion and equality for refugees and people seeking sanctuary, as well as greater public awareness.

Display one of the Sandwell Borough of Sanctuary Pledges outside your building or office

Invite other organisations from my networks in the borough to sign up to support Sandwell Borough of Sanctuary.

Host drop-in sessions and welcoming activities for people seeking sanctuary.

Arrange workshops, talks and social or cultural events raising awareness of asylum and refugee issues.

Invite an asylum seeker or refugee to come and speak of their experience to your organisation or to a group of organisations in your area

Offer volunteer placements for suitably skilled refugees or asylum seekers

Consider appointing refugees to positions of responsibility in your community.

Offer meeting space to an asylum or refugee community group.

Support Sandwell Borough of Sanctuary directly through administrative of financial support

Fundraise for Reading City of Sanctuary or a charity that supports refugees, asylum seekers such as the Brushstrokes.

Donate (non-perishable) food items or other items as required to organisations in the borough that help destitute asylum seekers, refugees and migrants.

Support Smethwick Community Sponsorship Group in providing a community welcome and taking responsibility for a refugee family's first year in the UK

Start a Community Sponsorship group in your own area (ask us for details)

Publicise Sandwell Borough of Sanctuary, City of Sanctuary, Refugee Week, Lift The Ban or other refugee events within your community

Take part in refugee week (ask us for details)
