Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of the Southern Border Coalition. Coalition Members participate in voting processes within each respective subregional sector. Coalition Members may participate in more than one subregional sector but they may only vote in one sector. The first voting process will be to elect Sector Leads.

Coalition Mission Statement
The Southern Border Coalition’s mission is to develop a comprehensive regional economic plan that supports high-road jobs, an inclusive transition to a net-zero economy and empowers and uplifts disinvested communities by fostering equity and creating sustainable opportunities for growth.

Coalition Vision Statement
"Our vision is to foster inclusive and sustainable economic development in the Southern Border Region by empowering and uplifting disadvantaged communities, ensuring equitable access to opportunities, resources, and growth."

To vote in a sector, a Coalition Member must be part of the sector, as defined below:

Disinvested Communities: residents from a disinvested community.

Grassroots & Community-Based Organizations, Community Organizers, and Community Members: representatives from a grassroots organization, community-based organization, community organizers, or community members.

Labor Organizations: representatives from labor organizations that represent workers within the subregion.

Employers, Businesses, and Business Associations Business: representatives from  business associations with experience in serving small business owners, business owners in disinvested communities, and other business owners historically excluded from economic development and land use discussions.

Government Agencies: representatives from local, regional, federal, or state government agencies that, among other responsibilities, have a duty to serve individuals, families, and businesses in disinvested communities.

Economic Development Agencies: representatives from economic development agencies with experience and a mission to serve the needs of disinvested communities and experience in clean energy technologies and other priority industries.

Philanthropic Organizations: representatives from a philanthropic organization with a track record of serving the needs and interests of individuals, families, and businesses in disinvested communities.

Education and Training Providers: representatives from education and training providers with experience in assisting students obtain the skills needed to be successful in a 21st century economy, including ESL students, students with disabilities, and other students who face systemic barriers to success with an emphasis on public education providers.

Workforce Entities: representatives from workforce entities with experience and a successful track record in assisting workers in obtaining the skills needed to transition from entry-level jobs to high-road careers in priority industry sectors with an emphasis on free and low-cost education providers.

Environmental Justice Organizations: representatives from an Environmental organization that has experience working and engaging with residents in the subregion.

Worker Centers: representatives from worker centers located in the subregion. Worker centers are community-based organizations that advance the needs of low-wage, immigrant, and other vulnerable workers through direct service provision, organizing, and advocacy. These centers typically serve workers in specific populations, sectors, or geographies. They strive to empower workers by providing supportive services such as job training, legal assistance, and access to opportunities. Worker centers also organize workers, advocate for high quality jobs, and promote solidarity among workers.  

Youth: representatives from disinvested communities engaged in youth activities that are between the ages of 15 and 24.

LGBTQIA: representatives from the LGBTQIA community.

California Native American Tribes: representatives of California Native American Tribes that provide or facilitate the delivery of health, housing, environmental, or economic development services to lower-income tribal members.

Farmworkers: representatives from the farmworker community.
