Med Show is an annual musical written and produced by pre-clerkship uOttawa medical students. No previous musical experience is needed to partake! This year, we will be putting on a production of Romeo and Juliet. Songs will be parodies based off existing musical numbers or popular songs.

Synopsis: Romeo Medtague, son of a world renown internist, stumbles into a surgical conference where he discovers his passion for surgery and meets the lovely Juliet Scalpulet, daughter of a big-wig surgeon, who has decided she wants to go into medicine. Doubting that their parents would approve of their dreams, the two decide to discretely switch lives - but will they be able to pull off this grand swap without arousing suspicion?

Auditions
EVERYONE WHO IS INTERESTED IN PARTAKING IN MED SHOW WILL BE IN THE SHOW - NOBODY WILL BE CUT DURING AUDITIONS! Auditions will still be held for casting purposes in order to assess what role would be best suited for each performer.

FOR BAND:

You must perform on any instrument of your choosing, approximately 3-4 minutes long. Please select one that highlights your instrumental ability and talent. You can choose to audition in person or virtually (recording submission to medshow.uottawa@gmail.com)

FOR MAIN & SECONDARY CAST:

You must do a full audition - aka the acting, singing, AND dancing component. While we hope to assign everyone a role they are excited about, please note that not all those who audition for the main & secondary cast will receive a role in the main & secondary cast and may be instead cast in the ensemble.

FOR ENSEMBLE:

You may choose to sign up and audition for one or more of: acting, singing, and dancing. The purpose of auditions for the ensemble are only to assess which scenes/songs you would be best placed in. Everyone who auditions for a part in the ensemble will be accepted.

The auditions will consist of three sections: acting, singing, and dancing

Act (individual):
- One (1) dialogue, to be given at the audition (not memorized)
- MAIN & SECONDARY CAST ONLY: One (1) monologue chosen from the options in the following Google Doc, memorized https://docs.google.com/document/d/18Inb4ylEtnJpFLxZYZ6t3E5_JEb-TvfKtVnPmUj-BO0/edit?usp=sharing

Sing (individual):
- One (1) song of your choice, approximately two minutes in length, memorized. Please select a song/excerpt that highlights your vocal ability and talent, also something that allows for you to perform. You may sing the piece acapella OR find and bring an INSTRUMENTAL track to accompany your singing OR bring your own accompanist
- Range, pitch matching, & playback test, to be done at the audition

Dance (group):
- A group dance routine, to be given at audition. You will be taught a short piece of choreography, which you will then perform.

We understand that not everyone is confident in singing, acting, and dancing, but we ask that you step out of your comfort zone and try all three during auditions. Have fun with it and learn something new. We are looking for enthusiasm, personality, and drive!
