2023 Asaayi Endurance Camp Registration
A three-day, two-night camp for youth ages 12-18, Sunday, July 23rd (drop off btw. 3pm & 5pm) thru Tuesday, July 25th (pick-up between 3pm and 5pm). Facilities used with permission from Navajo Nation Parks & Recreation. Detailed directions to the camp will be shared in the days leading up to camp but it is approximately 8 miles south of Crystal, NM. Registration limited to 35 participants. Hosted as a collaboration between Navajo Y.E.S., Silver Stallion and Wings of America.
Participants are asked to come prepared with their own water bottle, head lamp, sleeping bag, camp chair, ground pad and tent. If they do not have these items available to them, please let us know in the registration form and we will follow up with you about lending you some of our stock. Please pack clothes appropriate for both hot and cold temperatures, along with a rain-proof jacket. Meals will be provided from dinner on Sunday until lunch on Tuesday. Porta-johns will be available, but no showers.
Sunday afternoon and evening will be a time for campers to get to know one another, play games and relax. Camp will begin early Monday and Tuesday mornings with a group warm-up, run and cool-down. After breakfast, campers will split into groups. These groups will rotate between "stations" focused on 1. Running technique, training and injury prevention 2. Mountain bike riding 3. Trail/host site improvement and building.
Groups will come back together before the end of each day to share some of what they learned and play more games. Night time will be a time for group storytelling and, of course, rest.
This camp is intended to help young people become more-familiar with the diverse landscapes of the Navajo Nation while gaining knowledge to help them test their endurance. Participants are not expected to be competitive runners and/or cyclists- but all should be willing to choose their challenge and test their limits while being sensitive and supportive of other campers' needs. Thank you for your interest. Please feel free to call Wings' Executive Director, Dustin Martin, at (505) 977 5057 with any questions you may have before registering. Please fill out a registration form for each child wishing to participate. Registration is first-come-first-served and limited to 35 participants.
