SGUO aims to bridge the studies of science and society, making our organization an inclusive space for students The Society and Genetics Undergraduate Organization is a student club at UCLA affiliated with the Institute of Society and Genetics (ISG) that aims to serve the intellectual, professional, charitable, and social interests of students passionate about interdisciplinary approaches to problems.
We work to provide a thriving space for learning about and discussing these and other relevant societal and scientific issues. Our events include:

GENERAL MEMBER EXPECTATIONS:
If interested in being a general member, you will be have the opportunity to attend general meetings to learn about updates regarding ISG and interdisciplinary educational topics, attend events to interact with professors and students, and socials to meet other students interested in SGUO. To be considered an ACTIVE general member and be recognized by the ISG department as a member, you will be expected to obtain at least 80 points per quarter consisting of attendance of general meetings, events, and socials.
COMMITTEE MEMBER EXPECTATIONS:
If interested in being a committee member, you will have the opportunity to be a part of actively planning the events for your committee of choice. *Please note that committee member applications are more selective and to be considered an active committee member, you will be expected to attend a majority of general meetings, events, and socials, as well as separate committee meetings your committee director may organize.
Each committee member can apply to be placed in a committee which are as follows :
Outreach and Education Committee:
Work with different organizations on and off campus to collaborate on creating opportunities for club members to engage with the community
Look for volunteer and internship opportunities for members
Initiate community outreach and service projects
Finance committee:
Plan and execute creative fundraisers including but not limited to bruinwalk fundraisers, restaurant collaboration fundraisers, and virtual fundraisers
Work with different organizations to plan joint fundraisers
Events Committee:
Come up with event ideas
Reach out and communicate with professors/alumni for events
Navigate logistics for all outreach events
Social Relations Committee:
Work to facilitate communication and engagement within the club
Create social networking opportunities within the organization
Maintain engagement and accountability of members
*Meetings and events will be Tuesdays from 6:00pm to 7:00pm*
