Acknowledgement of Risk For Winter Sports
Dear Parent/Guardian,
The 2020-2021 winter sports season will officially begin preseason starting in January (Ice Hockey, Basketball & Cheer), February (Swimming, Diving & Indoor Track) and March (Wrestling & Girls Volleyball). Because of COVID -19, this winter will look very different then previous seasons with many guidelines and procedures put in place to help protect our athletes, teams, coaches and families.
The novel coronavirus, COVID-19, has been declared a worldwide pandemic by the World Health Organization. COVID-19 is extremely contagious and is believed to spread mainly from person-to-person contact. As a result, federal, state, local governments and federal and state health agencies recommend social distancing and have, in many locations, prohibited the congregation of large groups of people.
The Hopewell Valley Regional School District and the Hopewell Valley Athletic Department, with guidance from the NJSIAA, NJ Department of Health and the CDC, have put in place preventative measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19; however, HVRSD cannot guarantee that you or your child(ren) will not become infected with COVID-19 as a result of participating in winter athletics.
Children who have compromised immune systems are at higher risk. This includes but is not limited to children with the following:
Autoimmune disorders, such as Crohns disease, lupus or rheumatoid arthritis
Cancer
Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
Chronic lung disease or moderate to severe asthma
Diabetes
Serious heart conditions
If your child is at a higher risk, it is recommended they not return to in-person activities until there is little to no COVID-19 in our community.
