People, Place, Disruption - Artist Application
On Saturday, November 14, Nimbus will present People, Place, Disruption, a collaborative work which draws together the dancers and choreographers of Nimbus Dance with Jersey City visual artists to reflect back and process the exceptional confluence of social, environmental, health, and economic upheaval that our community, and the world, face at present. The project aims to affirm and empower artists and collaborative action, exploring underlying webs between people, place during the disruptive times we live in.

The collaborative work will be divided into three thematic “movements”:
People (photography),
Place (2-dimensional art/painting/drawing),
Disruption (3 dimensional art/sculpture/installation).

Artists are invited to submit multiple works for consideration.

Nimbus will create dance works around these themes - mostly solos and socially-distanced group pieces. Visual artists will submit work based on an open call. The dance and visual element will be integrated through video montage projections and interactions with the performers.

The work will premiere in early-mid November with a screening to be presented both virtually and to limited in-person audiences. People, Place, Disruption will return in the Spring as part of in-person performances (pending COVID conditions) at the Nimbus Arts Center, along with an art exhibition that features the visual art pieces from the project.

Selected 2-dimensional works (photography, paintings, drawings) will be included in a group art exhibition at the Gallery at the Nimbus Arts Center in Spring 2021, Date TBD. Artists will receive 80% of sales from the group show.

Nimbus will select 1 Artist to create a commissioned interactive installation work for the “Disruption” movement. The commissioned artist will receive a $500 stipend for materials and construction.
Additional guidelines: Interactive, should be able to easily be assembled and disassembled in various locations.

All selected artists will be listed as collaborators in the Dance Work.
