Summer Opportunities for Creative Engagement
Spanish Version: https://forms.gle/VEtAA861EupCsuGb9.

The City of Chelsea is pleased to announce several new opportunities for creative engagement in enlivening the Downtown. Whether you are an emerging or seasoned artist, or just enjoy being around creative people and helping out, there is something for everyone this summer. Please review the opportunities below and check the projects you are interested in learning more about. We will be in touch with more information!

#CHALKARTSATURDAYS:
Every Saturday, starting June 13, 2020, community members across the City of Chelsea are invited to make chalk art in public spaces near their home. A calendar of prompts will provide a different theme each weekend. Artists can apply to create a site specific drawing. Selected artist will be matched with a specific site and install date. We’ll provide quality artist chalk and a stipend of $150.

COPIA Y PEGA ON CHERRY STREET:
Wheatpaste murals printed from digital files will be pasted in assorted locations on Cherry Street. Artists with diverse skill levels are welcome to propose murals or contribute content to larger community murals. Stipends vary from $100 - $400 depending on scale.

If desired, interested artists can attend online workshops and one-on-one technical support sessions to help advance their artmaking skills and develop their wheatpaste designs. Workshops and support sessions will begin at the end of June. Professional public artists, Carolyn Lewenberg and Amanda Hill will facilitate the workshops and support sessions.

PAINTED MURALS ON DIVISION STREET:
Building on the murals done last year, the next block of Division Street will get its facelift this summer with painted murals. Wall locations will be focused on the block between Fourth Street and Congress. Stipends vary from $500 - $1,500 depending on scale.

If desired, interested artists can attend online workshops and one-on-one technical support sessions to help advance their artmaking skills and develop their designs. Workshops and support sessions will begin at the end of June. Professional public artists, Carolyn Lewenberg and Amanda Hill, will facilitate the workshops and support sessions.

NUESTRA MESA:
In Chelsea Square, unique tables and seating designed by local artists will provide a place to sit outside while staying socially distanced. The theme for these pieces revolves around the Dominican tradition of nine days of mourning with designs exploring grieving (crying and reminiscing), silence (thinking and reverence), and release (accepting and separating).

CREATIVE CROSSWALKS:
Four Division Street crosswalks will be redesigned by artist, Amanda Hill this summer. Community input is desired. Look out for virtual polls! Volunteers needed to paint! Install is scheduled for late summer and early fall.
