We want to hear from you on the "Wedgwood to Inverness Pedestrian Connectivity Project - Design Phase"
UPDATE: The grant application was not submitted for the Department of Neighborhood's April 2021 grant window.  Instead, we now intend to submit a grant applcaiton for this project during the September 2021 grant window.

This form has been developed by the Wedgwood Community Council (WCC) to collect information from those interested in the Wedgwood to Inverness Pedestrian Connectivity Project - Design Phase.  This is currently just a conceptual project at the moment, although the WCC will be submitting for a grant from the Department of Neighborhoods to support design services.

The purpose of this project is to increase and improve pedestrian infrastructure and connectivity between the Wedgwood and Inverness neighborhoods.  Currently, the only route for pedestrians to walk between Inverness and Wedgwood occurs along 42nd Ave NE/NE 92nd Street, which is a winding road that is slightly larger than 1 lane and which has no sidewalks, poor lighting, and minimal shoulder protection.  No other pedestrian connection exists between NE 95th Street and NE 75th Street, a distance of 1-mile. To provide improved connectivity for pedestrians, we are seeking to design a series of stairs and pathway within existing Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) right-of-way (e.g., public land) along NE 88th Street and 45th Ave NE. The project would allow for safer routes for those in Wedgwood to walk to Matthews Beach or the Burke Gilman trail and for those in Inverness (including kids and students) to walk to Wedgwood and Thornton Creek Elementary.

Design for the project under this initial design phase would be managed by the community through a volunteer leadership team. The design will include geotechnical investigations, civil engineering, and landscape design services to determine the feasibility of the project.  This initial design phase could lead to a future project, but may not.

We recognize that the trail could have impacts to adjoining neighbors and we will therefore be reaching out to those potential neighbors during this grant application process and through any design phase to identify concerns and mitigate these concerns through the design phase.  Further, we would welcome representation by adjoining neighbors on a volunteer leadership team managing the grant and design so they are intimately involved in the project.

No funding has been awarded to the WCC at the moment.  We intend to submit our grant application during the Department of Neighborhood's April 2021 grant window.  However, this application could be pushed back to the September 2021 grant window in needed.  This form helps us identify interested parties (those both in support of or oppossed to the concept), developing a project leadership team, and identifing potential community match for the grant.  The WCC may share your name, address, and contact information as part of our grant application to the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, if authorized (see below).  However, no personal information will be shared with any third-parties for commercial purposes.

If you would like to be kept informed of the project concept or get involved, please complete the questions below.  Please help us spread the word about this project by sharing the link to this form with your family, neighbors and friends!
