We are currently accepting applications for Firefighters & Emergency Medical Technicians!

The members of the Hewlett Fire Department are dedicated to providing professional-level service to the community. Our fire department is staffed by all volunteers and we are always looking for new members.

If you are interested in receiving more information about becoming a volunteer with the Hewlett Fire Department, please fill-out the online form below and you will be contacted by a department representative within a few days. Please note: There is no salary or other compensation for this position. There are no shifts and we operate on an "as-needed" basis. When a call is received, members are alerted and respond to the firehouse to answer the alarm.

Some requirements to join...

All applicants must be at least 18 years old (inquire about our Hewlett Junior Fire Department program age 12-17)
All applicants must be in good physical shape and be able to pass a department physical exam.
All applicants must pass a background check.
All applicants must be willing to maintain a percentage of total calls and attend weekly training sessions, monthly meetings, and other activities. Those who do not maintain their required activity standards are asked to resign or dropped from the rolls.

You must also meet one of the following requirements...

Reside within the boundaries of the Hewlett Bay Fire District or areas protected by the Hewlett Fire Department
Reside in an immediately adjoining fire district or within 1.5 miles of the Hewlett Fire Department, 25 Franklin Ave, Hewlett, NY 11557.
Work within or near the boundaries of the Hewlett Bay Fire District or areas protected by the Hewlett Fire Department and have flexibility to respond to alarms at various times for unknown lengths of time.
