NiteLine Dublin Volunteer Application Form 24/25
This form is where you can apply to become a call-taking volunteer.

What is NiteLine?
NiteLine is a listening and information service run by students for students. We are now recruiting for phone volunteers from our affiliated colleges (DBS, DCU, MU, NCAD, RCSI, IADT, DkIT, TCD, TUD & UCD).
If you are a UL student interested in volunteering, we have a separate application which you can fill out at the link below.

Who are our volunteers?
Phone volunteers receive extensive training on taking calls from students over the phone or via our instant messaging service.  Our volunteers are anonymous, confidential, non-judgmental and non-directive. Volunteers are chosen for their ability to listen and accept rather than for any professional qualifications they might have.

How are phone volunteers trained?
We offer multiple training groups to try and accommodate applicants. Applicants should be available for at least one of the groups listed below. For our summer groups, training will take place twice a week for six hours (on each occasion) in person.
Group 1: August 10-11, August 24-25
Group 2: August 31 -September 1, September 7-8
We also offer an Autumn training group once a week over four weeks for six hours on each occasion.
Group 3: September 7, 14, 21, 28
Volunteers should also be available for a weekend in October for their graduation social and a weekend in March during which retraining takes place.

We are also looking for students with skills such as legal, IT, business, fundraising, marketing, photography, social media, public speaking, training etc. from your respective degrees or experience so please let us know if you have anything you would like to bring to our service!

Please note: only current students of our affiliated colleges (DBS, DCU, MU, NCAD, RCSI, IADT, DkIT, TCD, TUD & UCD) can volunteer with NiteLine Dublin. If you are a student of University College Cork (UCC) or Queen's University Belfast (QUB), you can apply to volunteer for the NiteLine service in your college. If you would like to see your college affiliate with us, get in touch with your Students' Union or college counselling service.
Please pick all times that you can be available for training if accepted as a phone volunteer. Why are you applying to become a NiteLine Volunteer? (answer in 50-150 words) *
NiteLine's ethos is based on a principle of listening to others. What do you think makes a good listener? (answer in 50-150 words) *
The NiteLine office is upstairs with limited accessibility. Do you have any relevant accessibility issues which we should know about? *
We are always looking for students with skills that complement their role as a volunteer. Please share any additional skills/experiences you could bring to the NiteLine team (e.g., legal, IT, business, fundraising, marketing, photography, social media, public speaking, training? etc.)
NiteLine Phone Volunteers are required to commit to 24 hours of training plus practicing outside of those dedicated training hours. This is followed by an average of two 6 hour shifts per month and at least one hour-long group support meeting per month. Call taking volunteers are also encouraged to take part in publicity events for NiteLine. Do you feel you can commit to these hours? *
In some exceptional cases, training, and sometimes volunteering can be done at home from your own computer. In this case, would you: (1) have access to a strong and reliable internet connection, (2) have a private space in your home where you can work undisturbed, (3) be comfortable with taking instant messaging and training from your own home? *
By ticking this box you consent to your data being used by NiteLine for the purpose of contacting applicants, trainees and volunteers. If you withdraw from the process, are unsuccessful in your application, or leave the organisation, your data will be deleted. *
