Spotlight on Equity
We are interested in highlighting the great work taking place across the nation in our upcoming “Spotlights on Equity” feature of the “What’s New” newsletter. In order to do so, we would like to learn more about what individuals and organizations are doing to fight for racial justice & ensure that equity, diversity & inclusion (EDI) is embedded and central to the work they do.

Share Our Strength defines equity, diversity & inclusion as:
•Equity - The process of establishing systems, policies and behaviors that eliminate the unfair distribution of material and non-material access and opportunity resulting in outcome and experience differences that are predictable by race, socioeconomic status, gender identity, home language, sexual orientation, religion, and other dimensions of identity

•Diversity - All the differences between us based on which we experience advantages or encounter barriers to opportunities.

•Inclusion - Nurturing a sense of belonging by centering, valuing, and amplifying the voices, perspectives and styles of those who experience more barriers based on their intersectional identities.

Please take a few minutes to answer any of the questions below so we can get a better sense of your community & how you are advancing EDI principles.

Please provide information on your community and the specific needs that your EDI initiative addresses.
Please include any relevant demographic information about the population you reach, such as age, disability, religious, income, unhoused, LGBTIA+, and race/ethnic composition including persons of color, immigrant and refugee families, and Native and Indigenous communities.
Children and families are invaluable thought partners in designing effective community programs. Please describe how you elevate and address the needs of people of color; engage the community as partners in decision-making; and/or ensure that decision-makers are reflective of the community you serve.
As the pandemic has increased the prevalence of childhood hunger across the nation, actions to minimize community hunger have been severely challenged. What strategies are you implementing in your community or district, if any, to ensure that you are feeding and supporting the students and families most in need in your community?
Feel free to include anything else that you’d like to share with us
