Water Skills For Life - Expression of Interest
Kia ora,

Last year in Term 4, we had approx. 30 students attend water safety lessons (these are not swimming lessons) at Graham Condon pools. Below is an outline of the course.

Water Skills For Life, it is the national standard for Aquatic education (https://waterskills.org.nz/about focuses on making sure the students have the basic foundation skills to be able to swim in any environment, eg; learning how to tread water, learning how to fit a life jacket whilst in and out of the water, sculling etc.  Within the Water Skills for Life program there is 7 competency areas comprising of 27 core skills that are taught and practiced until they are competent.  The program is designed to cater for students from Year 0 –  8 although many high schools are now also using it.  Different aspects of Water Skills For Life has been included Christchurch City Council schools program for the past 4 years however the switch to Water Skills For Life has benefited many children as for some these are the only lessons that they will get and it is important that we teach them the skills to survive.

If you think your child would benefit from these lessons, please fill in the below form.
Once we get an idea of numbers we will be able to organise dates and cost.

Yours sincerely,

Tom Straker
Sports Coordinator
