Do you want to help some exchange students get settled in Lausanne and meet people from across the world? Then sign up to the ESN EPFL Buddy System!
This is your chance to make friends from all over the world, practice your language skills and get to know foreign cultures.
How does it work? You will be matched with 1-2 locals and 4-6 exchange students into a buddy group for the duration of the fall semester. Here are the guidelines of what the local buddies should do:
1. Communicate with your exchange buddy group before their arrival in Switzerland, you will be provided with email addresses and possibly Facebook contacts. Sending a Facebook message and creating a group chat is an effective way to reach your exchange buddies in the first place.
2. After arrival, help your buddies to settle in in Lausanne, they will surely have quite a few questions regarding daily life in Switzerland, etc. Maybe even show your exchange buddy group around Lausanne / EPFL, though finding your way around the city and visiting regular stores may seem like a dull thing to do, they can make the difference in making your exchange buddy feel welcome to Switzerland.
3. Don't hesitate to propose any dinner or other activities to your buddy group at least once to get to know them ! Of course you can also invite them along if you've planned something with friends of yours, this is all up to you. Especially before the start and in the beginning of the semester exchange students are usually very excited about opportunities to meet with locals or other exchange students, so try to show some initiative here :-)
Please note that by signing up to be a local buddy you are NOT offering to host your exchange buddy for overnight stay, nor to pay for any of their expenses.
Finally, remember. Being a local buddy is a great opportunity to meet new people, spread the Swiss culture and even make friends for life. Thank you for helping us making this system work year after year, your implication is very much appreciated ! For any further questions, do not hesitate to contact
