New Freedom Codes
This is research for an extensive artistic exhibition. The information shared here will be used to compile a limited set of handmade books as well as incorporated, via images, for the exhibition. Any information shared will be coded, so that these spaces won't become overwhelmed with voyeurs, etc. 

"New Freedom Codes" is part of "Ancestral Tethers" which is an exhibition I'm creating about Black Americans and their connections to one another and to the continent. NFC works to combine the idea of freedom quilts and the green book to create a new "green book" which aims to direct Black folks to spaces of joy, peace, and pleasure around the US. Your contributions will allow for a much accurate directory. Each location listed will be vetted, etc before it's included. 

Can you share a Black owned business that is a SAFE space for Black folks? Please only list spaces that are primarily patronized by Black folks (90% of the patrons are Black), not simply spaces owned and operated by Black folks. Spaces that offer joy, peace, and/ or refuge for Black folks in the US.

Requirements:

In order to submit you MUST be Black.
  • A physical location
  • Black owned and operated
  • 90% or more Black engagement
  • US based only please.


Also, please note this isn't a business listing. So we don't need products or doctors, etc. We're looking for spaces and places that Black folks can go to to experience freedom.
