Speeding cars, complex intersections, heavy traffic volume, and a lack of basic pedestrian infrastructure have created an unsafe environment for neighborhood kids on their walk to school and recreation activities. Greenfield residents have been asking the city to address our concerns for years, but we have yet to see action. The PTO and GCA are collecting signatures from Greenfield residents asking DOMI to add traffic calming near Greenfield School and Magee Field & Rec Center to keep our kids safe.

We're asking for:

The school safety zone signs and blinkers were removed when St. Rosalia's School closed. But a school safety zone is needed to keep current Greenfield School students and the soon-to-open Yeshiva School students safe.

Magee Field & Rec Center are epicenters for kids, including after-school programs, baseball games, basketball courts, the playground, and the pool, but it’s difficult for kids to access these amenities because of dangerous traffic conditions. The complex intersection at Ronald St is difficult to cross. Traffic often ignores the stop signs at McCaslin and reaches speeds dangerous for pedestrians and on-street parking. Immediate solutions could include a crossing guard at Ronald St. during high-traffic times, better pedestrian crossing signs, and traffic calming measures, such as speed bumps or bumpouts.

Vehicles speed up and down the hill and fly around the curve before Kaercher St. There's no painted shoulder line to keep traffic from veering close to the sidewalk and there’s no crosswalk at Greenfield Ave. and Haworth St. where cars turn into the car wash. Despite the high number of crashes, nothing has been done. Solutions could include speed awareness signs, a painted shoulder line on Greenfield Ave, speed bumps or rumble strips, and an additional stop sign at Kaercher St.
