Forest School in Highams Park
During our consultations for the Highams Park Plan many people said that there are not enough activities for young people in the area. One of the suggestions was running nature study classes at the lake and nearby forest. Now that we have Humphry's Café in the park and there are toilet facilities available this is something that can now be seriously considered.

Tinder Sticks, who you may have seen at some of the events in The Highams Park, are  considering setting up a local Forest School.

The Forest School ethos is experiential, exploratory, learner led, outdoor education that inspires confidence, self-esteem, respect for nature and connection to self. Forest School ethos encourages collaboration rather than competition, generosity over selfishness, sustainable management rather than exploitation.

Tinder Sticks has asked HPPG to canvas local people to see if it is something that people would support and how it can be best set up to deliver what would suit people best.

By way of background,  Tinder Sticks CIC is a not for profit organisation dedicated to getting more people outdoor confident. They are the Learning Providers for Forestry England at Fineshade Wood in Corby where they provide education sessions, a Forest School and a range of events for the community based on bushcraft and nature awareness for all ages. They also deliver adult bushcraft workshops at Almost Wild Campsite, Broxbourne and this year have been working in Epping Forest delivering nature therapy sessions for NHS staff at Whipps Cross.
