NEW YEAR EPEE 2023, hosted by Brian Boru Fencing Club
Welcome to the first competition of 2023, the NEW YEAR EPEE. Everyone has one day to recover from any New Year celebration excesses. Brain Boru Fencing Club are organising the New Year Epee which will be held on Monday the 2nd of January 2023.

Holding to the New Year Epee tradition of novel competition formats we have something new which guarantees everyone plenty of fencing.

Format:-
1. All entrants split into poules of 6 or 7 fencers, ranked using the Men/Women Irish National Rankings. 
2. Second round of poules of 6 or 7 fencers ranked based on the first round.
3. Third round of poules ranking based on second round poules, top 6 or 7 fencers separated into a shark poule. All other fencers mixed into multiple poules based on the second round results.
4. Elimination round based on rankings from third round of poules. Shark pool take up places 1-7, places 8-16 taken from mix poules. Fencers below 16th place cut.

Entry fee is €15, which must be paid prior to the event via the link below. There will be no on the day entry. Final date for entry is Thursday 30th December 2022, any entry after that date will be at the organisers discretion. Until the entry fee is received all entries are considered preliminary.

ALL ENTRANTS MUST HAVE A 2022/2023 SEASON FENCING LICENCE (Note by agreement between Fencing Ireland and Pentathlon Ireland all active paid members of Pentathlon Ireland have fencing licences). Anyone without a licence for the current season will not be permitted to fence. Licences can be renewed on the Fencing Ireland web site:

Prizes:-
There will be trophies for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place for the overall Tournament (men and women competing together) and 1st, 2nd, 3rd place for women with separate medals for the highest placed male and female Cadet fencers (i.e. under 17 on 1st January 2023).

Equipment and Facilities:-
1. No fencing bags in the main fencing hall, a secondary hall will be used for bags and changing, this will ensure there is enough space for changing, warmups and use of the six pistes.
2. All poule bouts will be self refereed. For the semi-final/finals a designated referee will be assigned.
3. The bathrooms will be open, with changing room for female fencers.
4. Kitchen will be open to allow fencers to fill their water bottles.
5. Fencers must bring their own equipment, no one will be permitted to use Brian Boru club equipment (e.g. glove, mask, jacket, breaches, epee).
6. All fencers must dispose of their own rubbish in the bins provided please respect the Pentathlon Centre and clean up after yourselves.

TRAVEL:-

- ADDRESS: Pentathlon Centre, National Sports Campus, Snugborough Road, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15 (see map below)

- BUS: Dublin Bus 38, 38a or 38b (stop No. 1836 Corduff, Westway). Bus stops opposite the entrance to Sports Campus. https://www.dublinbus.ie/Your-Journey1/Timetables/

- WALKING: Pentathlon Centre is some distance from the campus entrance. If on foot turn left at the Football Association offices and follow the road between the football pitches.

- DRIVERS: For drivers follow the signs for the National Pentathlon Centre, do not attempt to drive through the football pitch area, follow the signs which will take you round the fields. There is free parking available next to the Pentathlon Centre.

Competition Terms *
Competition will be run according to FIE rules. The Directoire Technique may modify FIE rules to ensure smooth running of the competition and will decide on any issues not covered by these rules. The decision of the Directoire Technique shall be final. Valid IFF or National Licences are required. Fencers are required to wear correct fencing attire i.e. 350N jacket, breeches and mask and 800N underplastron. By ticking the box you acknowledge and agree that the Organising Committee does not accept responsibility for any accident, loss or damage sustained during the competition.
