Aalborg University (AAU, DK) is a public research institution in Denmark for basic and applied research in a wide range of disciplines within, social sciences, humanities, engineering, natural sciences, health and medicine. Moreover Aalborg University has an educational basis in the problem based learning model, meaning that students, researchers and staff are accustomed to working with industry, in groups, with relevant and real challenges as a frame for the theoretical teaching. Aalborg University is a relatively young and an innovative university and is a member of the European Consortium of Innovative Universities and is widely acknowledged as a frontrunner within university third stream activities and innovation. Aalborg University is represented by AAU Innovation that was established in 2005, as a merger of TTO, Knowledge Exchange and an Entrepreneurship Center, in order to strengthen the focus on the interaction between AAU in SMEs in the region. In that capacity, it has ample experience in entrepreneurship, spin-off and SME support. AAU Innovation runs own incubation scheme in two geographic regions in Denmark. AAU Innovation is the host of various cluster organisations; services them at different development stages and is the secretariat for the regional cluster organisation Energy Vision. Furthermore, AAU is the regional development operator on the national Danish start-up competition Venture Cup, and active on the board of directors. Venture Cup works with more than 1000 NEs on a yearly basis, helping NEs in describing and realising their business potential, getting a mentor and raising capital. Venture Cup is a key activity of Incubator, which is the pre-incubator run by AAU.
