Jackie Robinson to Fernando Valenzuela to Shohei Ohtani. The diversity legacy in professional team sports was born at Dodgertown, and it continues to be a major player for the Los Angeles Dodgers today.
It began in 1945, when Dodger Pres. Branch Rickey signed Jackie Robinson. Now, Rickey had to figure how Jackie could play for the Dodgers. At first, Jackie played in Cuba. Branch then decided to build an integrated town, in the segregated south, so the Dodgers could play as a team. And, Dodgertown itself was born!
Today, Dodgertown.net helps to keep the humane legacy of Dodgertown alive by honoring a diversity of great names that made, and continues to make, the game great.
