Add Your Name to Support the Minnesota Age Appropriate Design Code
Introduced by State Representatives Kristin Bahner and Steve Elkins, the Minnesota Age Appropriate Design Code (HF 2257) is a privacy framework that brings a product safety approach to the internet ensuring that, like cribs and seatbelts, the online products our children and teens use every day are safe by design.

The AADC is already in effect in the UK and has just become law in California. It would require privacy by design and default and that online products and services that children and teens under 18 access are age appropriate and designed in kids’ best interests. The law has already spurred significant changes from Big Tech companies with YouTube turning off auto-play for users under the age of 18, Instagram preventing strangers from messaging users under the age of 18, and Google stopping targeted advertising for users under the age of 18.

In advocating for policy for safer social media and online platforms for kids, teens, and young adults, the national youth-led coalition, Design It For Us, is building youth support for the Minnesota Age Appropriate Design Code. Minnesota can lead the nation in protecting kids online by design and default with this legislation.
