Steeltown’s Film Academy is a youth education program in digital media arts and filmmaking. The Academy is open to students that are currently in 9th to 12th grade.
The Spring 2022 virtual program runs from February 28th through May 27th 2022, for three days each week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) from 5:00PM-6:30PM, on Zoom*. Students will be given an additional 3-5 hours of independent project time per week to complete on their own time. Steeltown will not be in session on the following days due to holidays: Friday April 15th & Monday April 18th (Easter).
The cost of the program is $2,500 per student. This cost includes a "film at home" kit (valued at $600) that students will get to keep! Financial assistance is available due to the generous support from foundations and the Pittsburgh community. A $200 non-refundable deposit** is due at the time of registration to secure a spot.
Financial assistance recipients are NOT required to provide a deposit, but confirmation via email or phone is necessary to claim the spot. The deposit will go towards the remaining balance that is due at the start of the session. Payment plans are available.
If applying for full scholarships, this application is due Sunday February 13th, 2022.
Steeltown uses a rolling admissions process and will notify all applicants of their application status within 2 weeks prior to the start of the semester. At that time, applicants will also be notified of financial assistance awarded, if applicable. Limited spaces are available in each session.
