Survey of recreational fishing in the Mediterranean Marine Protected Areas (MPAs)
Although it covers only 0.7% of the total ocean surface, the Mediterranean sea gathers more than 10% of the world's known marine species (Bianchi and Morri, 2000).
For hundreds of years, these marine resources have contributed to the economic and cultural development of the surrounding countries. They are also the support of numerous activities such as recreational fishing, defined as "an activity exclusively reserved for personal consumption, the product of which cannot be peddled, displayed for sale, sold in any form, or purchased" (LEGIFRANCE, 2022).
This recreational activity, practiced for hundreds of years throughout the Mediterranean basin, is now gathering more and more people and generating a significant fishing effort. Numerous studies agree on the impact of this activity which strongly threatens the balance of species and habitats (overexploitation, introduction of invasive species, pollution...). The responsibility of managers within Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) is therefore twofold, since they must ensure the preservation of the resource while maintaining socio-economic activities within a logic of sustainable development.
In order to continue its constructive reflection on the sustainable and reasoned management of recreational fishing, the Parc Naturel Marin du Cap Corse et de l'Agriate / Parcu naturale marinu di u Capicorsu è di l'Agriate would like to use this questionnaire to solicit as many managers as possible from other Mediterranean MPAs in order to characterize the management of this activity in the entire basin.
This questionnaire is composed of 4 independent parts. The estimated response time is 5 minutes.
It can be completed anonymously. However, if you wish, you can indicate your contact information at the end of the last part so that the Park can contact you later in the framework of this vast survey on recreational fishing.
