2020-21 AWHL Board Candidate Application
About the Board...

AWHL is run by a 9-member all volunteer Board of Directors who are now elected in staggered 3-year terms. The Board is responsible for all aspects of the League's operation including budgeting, scheduling ice and Refs, registration, member communications and making and enforcing rules.  Board Members have a vital role in keeping AWHL healthy by  creating policies based on player feedback.

How Much Time is Involved?

Generally, the board meets once a month for 1 to 2 hours. Members should count on devoting another 2 to 4 hours a month depending on the responsibilities they take on and, of course, depending on the time of year.  Each board determines when and where they meet. The current board meets on the second Monday of most months.  Members often connect by phone or other online means when they're unable to attend in person.

Before the Season Begins (May-August)

This is the busiest time for the board. The annual budget is set to determine team fees, ice requests and insurance certificates are sent, teams and players are registered and rostered, and games are scheduled.  A Discover Hockey Clinic may be organized if REC team registration is low.

During the Season (September-March)

The board pays monthly bills, deals with the rare disciplinary issues, maintains the web site,  communicates with members and schedules special events such as clinics, tournament and the banquet/annual membership meeting.
