INTRODUCTION: Wow! Great job on Lesson 4!! We are now on Lesson 5 and only one lesson away from completing our Reconciliation Sacrament prep program and "Celebrating" your First Reconciliation on December 14th! Great job! To date "Together in Jesus" has called you to keep the Ten Commandments, to love and forgive each other as Jesus teaches, and to make peace with family members, classmates, and neighbors. By keeping the commandments and following Jesus' teachings, all Christians build up a community of trust and love that shows we are the People of God. Our booklets "God's Gift of Forgiveness" and "Learning About the Ten Commandments" has helped you to learn more about the commandments and how to use them to "examine your conscience" as you prepare to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. You have learned in your lessons that Reconciliation is an opportunity to talk to God about the times we have messed up, made poor choices, or turned our backs on God and his wonderful plans for you. Reconciliation is an opportunity for us to say sorry to him and ask for forgiveness. Now we will continue our journey towards Reconciliation with our lesson today "Jesus Gives Us the Holy Spirit."
TOGETHER IN JESUS: FIRST RECONCILIATION:  First, let's begin by locating your "Together in Jesus: First Reconciliation" Lesson 5 booklet. Also, be sure to have nearby the sticker sheet that came with your booklet. Once you have both, you are ready to go! Today's lesson is "Jesus Gives Us the Holy Spirit." First let's take a moment to recall some of the events of the first Easter. When Jesus was arrested his followers, the apostles, were very afraid and ran away. They feared they might be arrested to. Peter, one of Jesus' disciples, was even caught denying he knew Jesus when he was asked if he was a friend of his.  Only one of the disciples, John, along with Jesus' mother Mary and Mary Magdalene were at the foot of the cross when Jesus died. On the first Easter, after Jesus' death, we know that the disciples and friends of Jesus' were gathered in a locked room. It was there in that locked room that Jesus appeared to his followers. To see what happened when Jesus appeared, let's read the story on page 1 of your "Together in Jesus" lesson and then answer the questions below.

Fantastic job! This story tells us that Jesus' followers came to pray together and locked the door out of fear. We imagine that they fear Jesus' enemies. We can also imagine that they also may have been feeling ashamed and sad for having denied Jesus and leaving him when he was arrested. And now to their amazement, following his death, Jesus appears to them in the locked room. Like the merciful father in the last lesson, Jesus makes no accusations and points no fingers at those who ran away when he was arrested. Instead, he brings his friends peace and breathes the Holy Spirit upon them. He gives these followers the mission of forgiving others and making peace. God continues to this day to forgive sins and peace in the words that are spoken and the actions that are taken in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
GOD'S GIFT OF FORGIVENESS: We are now ready to complete our "God's Gift of Forgiveness" booklet this week. Let's begin by locating your booklet along with the sticker sheet. Once you have both you are ready to read on page 12 and 13 how Reconciliation is your direct line to God! Once you read the story on these pages please answer the questions below.
The "Holy Spirit" is the ___________ Person of the Holy Trinity? *

Jesus gave his disciples the power to _______________ sins through the Holy Spirit? *

Great job! We need to remember that one of the reasons God invites us to come to Reconciliation is so that we can continue to grow in virtue and happiness, so we can help him build his kingdom. God’s kingdom is one of peace, love, and joy. He wants us to share this peace, love, and joy with everyone we meet. Now it is time to locate your Baptism certificate and place it on page 13 in the spot indicated.
REMINDER: Just a friendly reminder to be working on your Act of Contrition and Ten Commandments worksheets which need to be handed in before December 14th, the date of your First Reconciliation. Also, continue to review your "Going to Confession" window board so that you are familiar and comfortable with what will happen during your First Reconciliation. Don't forget to challenge yourself on the window board by closing all the windows and trying to see if you can say what each step is before you open the window. Good luck!
Super great job!  I want you to remember that "Reconciliation is a Celebration." It is a celebration of God's power to make all things new for us!! We will continue to learn more about this celebration as we continue our lessons!
